Elvis
Presley had a reputation as a night owl and a new
exhibit at the Graceland museum gives a peek into his
nocturnal activities. A jukebox, wrapped in yellow and
green neon, provided a steady supply of popular music.
Film clips show family and friends discussing late-night
excursions to an amusement park or his favourite cinema,
which he would rent for the night. (Appeared 21st.March

Haley might have got there before him ( he had his
first hit with Rock This Joint in 1951 ), but
Haley was chubby, Married-and above all corny. But
Presley was snake hipped, macho - and above all,

Priscilla

strange life. Married to Elvis at twenty-two,

really weird: her friend OJ Simpson is up on murder
charges and her daughter Lisa Marie has married

What
must it have been like to be there when Elvis burst upon the scene? I know
what it was like in Kells, Co. Meath. I think I was in high babies
at the time. Those bleak mornings in the school yard were taken up with
discussions about the latest episode of Champion The Wonder Horse.
Television was still a novelty then so only a few of us had
witnessed some riotous footage of the emerging Hillbilly Cat. (Written by Eamon

bubblegum cards must have been a buzz. At first, photographs from '54 show
a young man intent on reinventing himself. He's going to break out of that
cycle of poverty which might just condemn him to a lifetime of low

Dublin has seen priceless artefacts before, of course. there was the
Kremlin gold, the Chinese terracotta army, Caravaggio's
paintings-and now Elvis Presley's suit. And if you thought the
security was tight for the other exhibitions, you don't know
The Elvis Presley Fan Club. Graceland's communications manager Patsy
Anderson personally carried the studded suit in a case to Dublin
for the fan club's charity fund raiser.
