Opportunity to rock with Sinéad
BY JULIE TIERNEY
TG4's Sinéad Ní Loideáin from
Carraroe will co-host a new music show
during which 120 bands will battle it out to
win a trip to perform live in Memphis,
Tennessee.
Sinéad is a weather/continuity presenter
with TG4 and also presented the young
peoples wrap around programme Cúla4
for two years. She will be joined in
Deis Roc by Donegal DJ with Raidió na
Gaeltachta Rónán Mac Aodh Bhuí.
From an entry of 120 rock bands, a shortlist
of 12 from all over Ireland will converge on
Belfast to battle it out for a place in the
Deis Roc final, the winning band receiving a
trip to Memphis, Tennessee, where they will
visit Elvis' shrine, Sun Studios, and
perform live in a venue in Memphis.
Each band must perform in Irish as well as
English. Some have written new material in
Irish for the show, others have taken a
traditional Irish song and brought their own
modern rock interpretation to it.
Each week, two bands will go head to head in
front of a studio audience, with the viewing
public voting for their favourite band to go
through to the final.
The first programme will be broadcast on TG4
this Monday at 10pm and will be repeated on
Fridays at 6.30pm. The final programme will
be broadcast live from the King's Head pub
in Belfast on May 29, where the remaining
six bands will compete for the winning
prize.
