Released
by the
Spanish
Music Ages
label is the
first volume
in an Elvis
Presley
budget
series of EP
re-issues. A
release that
makes us
want a
volume 2?
Design
To be
honest, the
reason I
picked this
CD from
stack of
budget
releases is
for only one
reason, the
package.
This CD is
presented in
a three
panel
digipack
with four
EP's on the
cover.
Looking at
those
fifties
designs I
really would
have loved
to have been
around in
those days.
Just look at
the four
images of
that young
energetic
star that
set the
music world
on-fire.
Who needs
the modern
Photoshop
designs when
you can
create
covers like
this with
paper,
scissors and
some
pencils? And
they were
released on
a decent 45
RPM single
sleeve size
too :-)
Inside the
biography of
Elvis
Presley is
told in both
Spanish and
English.
Content
Back to
present day.
The content
of this
compilation
are the
tracks of
the four EPs
shown on the
cover "Y El
Rock And
Roll", "Love
Me Tender".
El Rock And
Roll de
Elvis
Presley" and
"El Ritmo de
Elvis
Presley";
sixteen
tracks in
total. And
since they
are from the
heyday of
Rock And
Roll they
are all
great :-)
Audio-wise
the
producers
followed the
rules; they
used the
(original?)
45 RPM
releases as
a source,
and you can
hear that.
On the cover
it is
advertised
as "Vinyl
Sound". The
sound is not
as crisp and
clear as the
official
SONY / BMG
releases.
For the few
Euro's this
set costd me
it actually
fits the
package and
presentation.
Conclusion
As
written in
the opening
I got this
one for the
package and
I for one
would like
to see more
of these
"original"
releases,
just for the
fun of
(collecting)
it. I
wouldn't
mind if all
more EPs see
the light of
day again
this way;
preferably
one at a
time so the
great covers
from the
past can be
shown in a
bigger size.
This release
shows that
the public
domain
legislation
in Europe is
not all bad.
