Beforehand
– knowing our "love" for impersonators – this book didn’t make our
hearts beat faster. But as always, we give anything a chance, we
decided to do our work and review this comic novel about an
impersonator, written by Rich Koslowski (ISBN 1-891830-61-1).
Well, it was harder than we thought. In over one month one of our
reviewers – the one that hardly reads anything else than comics –
wasn’t able to beat more than 18 pages. So we passed the stick to
our hard core reader. He used only a couple of hours, but had to
give up at one third of the 250+ pages. The book was neither funny
nor thrilling. The start is very tasteless: Elvis popping pills on
his “throne” on August 16, 1977. And it doesn’t get much better. The
phonetic written southern drawl is very irritating to read. It can
be funny in a single cartoon, but having it page after page is just
too much.
The drawings are not bad, but also not very special. Those who know
Ger Rijff’s comic outings on Elvis know at least a resembling comic
figure, something we can’t say about this comic novel.
Conclusion
The only thing we can say is stay away, Joe (and all others). You
will probably find it a waste of time, money and good taste
.
